Shrek takes out Sex and the City 2
Early estimates show that Shrek Forever After stayed on top beating the new Sex and the City film and Disney’s Prince of Persia.
Shrek Forever After, the fourth installment in the franchise, took in $55.7 million.
Opening at number two, Prince of Persia took in $37.8 million, coming in ahead of Sex and the City, which took in $37.1 million.
One of the most successful weekends of the year is the Memorial Day weekend. Family are usually more popular during holidays when you are more likely to have to entire family going to see a movie.
Tickets sales for this memorial weekend have dropped from last year. This years take wad approximately $182.2 million compared to last year which was $213.8 million.
A number of individuals in the industry believe they fall off is due to the audience not being satisfied with the quality of the movies in the marketplace.
Women movie-goers are expected to start watching Sex and the City 2 during the upcoming week. But that will need to be seen given the horrid reviews that movie has received.
Domestic distribution head Dan Fellman expect the movie to do better midweek. Fellman said, “It’s just that this was a little more difficult weekend.”
Other Movies
Iron Man 2 took in another 20.6 million, dropping to number four. And rounding out the top five is Robin hood, which took in $13.6 million.
